The service of loading and unloading flows (container throughput) in the Tanjung Priok Port area is expected to increase to 8 million TEUs this year. The port had reached 7.5 million TEUs in 2018. This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi , Sunday (9/10) when he had the opportunity to visit the Koja Container Terminal in the Tanjung Priok Port Area.

“Hopefully next year from 7.5 million to 8 million and continues to growth. Surely we must reduce costs,” he said.

The Minister of Transportation further explained that the increase in throughput could still be continued to reach 10-12 million TEUs per year.

“If want to increase it to 10-12 million, still have capacity, don’t need to enlarge the port. What needs to be done is how from the ports in Surabaya, Makasssar, Palembang to be consolidated here. So that the big ships coming here with more frequencies.” explained the Minister of Transportation.

Increased throughput will certainly be supported by the service of loading and unloading flows which are maximized on weekends, namely Saturday and Sunday. This service improvement is done so that the loading and unloading flow does not only accumulate on Thursday and Friday.

“All this time, the items are relatively not maximal on Saturday Sunday, so I ask the team to activate Saturday Sunday. We must enter. Thank you for the quarantine and customs all come so that there is an increase,” concluded the Minister.

“If there is a service, then it can operate not only once a week but can be 2-3 times, congestion is also reduced. Imagine if (the service) gathers on Thursday and Friday, then going in and out of here so queue up,” he added.

Besides, the Minister of Transportation Budi also appreciated the time of container storage or commonly called dwelling time which had decreased to an average of 2.4 days.
